Chapter Four

After his shower the next morning, Joe got ready for work. Getting on his usual khaki pants and sport shirt, with a spring in his step, Joe went downstairs to find Holly.

He walked into the kitchen and found her at the stove stirring scrambled eggs in a skillet while talking on the phone.

“I’m really sorry, Mr. Diamond, I just can’t.” She turned around and spotted Joe. “I know I’m leaving without notice, but surely Larry told you what happened yesterday.”

When Joe walked up beside her, Holly held up a finger. “I’m sorry you feel that way, Mr. Diamond, but my mind’s made up. I’ll be in today to pick up my things.”

Holly hung up the phone and set it on the counter. “Someone is not at all happy with me right now.”

Joe wrapped his arms around her from behind and kissed her neck. “What did he say?” Joe couldn’t imagine an employer being unsympathetic in a situation like Holly’s.

It sounded to him like Holly was well rid of the asshole.

Holly picked up the spatula and started stirring the eggs again. “He’s angry because I was in the middle of updating all the marketing files. He said I was really leaving him in the lurch.” Holly turned off the burner and pushed the pan to the back of the stove. “He’s right. I’m the only one who knows what I was working on.”

He started to tell Holly that Diamond could go fuck himself. The look on her face stopped him. He had to remember Holly’s comment the previous evening. She wanted to work. Maybe they could come up with a compromise.

“So ask him if you can work from home. And by home, I mean Gorge City. Maybe the two of you could work something out where you only have to go into the office once a week or something. You can take over my study for an office. I have another one connected to the exam room, so I won’t get in your way.”

Joe was starting to get excited by the thought of Holly both living with him and working in the same house. He turned Holly around in his arms and kissed her. “You can redecorate however you want. If you’re going to be spending time in there, I want you to be comfortable.”

Holly hugged him tighter and laid her head against his chest. “It sounds like the perfect solution. But are you sure you don’t mind me taking over your study?”

Running his hands down her back to her skirt covered ass, Joe squeezed. “Mind?

Are you kidding me? We can have nooners all the time.” Joe lifted Holly’s chin and kissed her.

Holly kissed him back and motioned toward the eggs. “Eat your breakfast before it gets cold. I’m going to run up and take a shower. And then I’m going to talk to Mr.

Diamond.”

Holly started to walk off, but Joe pulled her back in. “You can’t go by yourself, angel. I’ll call Brody. The two of you can stop by your house so you can change and pack your suitcases.
